The kitten was found in Franklin after a good Samaritan saw the kitten named Forrest Gump scurry from underneath their car when she went to start it Tuesday morning.
That person took the kitten to Hunter Pet Care, veterinarian clinic in Franklin, where they scanned for a microchip. 24Petwatch notified Animal Friends Humane Society.
Officials at the Butler County shelter at 1820 Princeton Road had been concerned not just that a person who had been approved for an adoption stole the kitten, but it had just had surgery and the incision site required monitoring and attention.
The animal was also on medication for an inner-ear infection, which AFHS said it required “continuous treatment” and caused the kitten to “have a head tilt.”
The news of Forrest Gump’s recovery “confirmed the heartbreaking story we feared,” as the person who stole the kitten abandoned it Thursday night in the cold.
“Forrest Gump is a true survivor, and we’re so grateful that he’s found his way back home,” according to the AFHS Facebook post. “May he never have to spend another night in the cold again.”

On Thursday evening, a kitten was stolen from the Animal Friends Humane Society in Hamilton.
The county shelter at 1820 Princeton Road is seeking the public’s help saying “the situation is critical” as the kitten had just been neutered and his incision site requires monitoring and attention.
“Additionally, he is on medication for an ongoing inner-ear infection, which needs continuous treatment,” according to the Facebook post. “This causes him to have a head tilt.”
The shelter said the person who took the kitten is in custody, providing conflicting stories. One alleged story was that this person gave the kitten to someone else.
“If this is the case, we urge that person to return the kitten to us immediately during our open hours, no questions asked,” according to the shelter.
But another story the person told was the kitten was released in a Walmart parking lot, possibly in Middletown. Middletown Division of Police and animal control have searched for the black and white kitten, but it has not been found. He has a blue collar and silver AFHS tag and a yellow microchip tag.
The shelter said this person was approved for adoption, then stole a kitten after being told it was already adopted.
“We fear for the kitten’s safety and well-being if this is true,” according to the shelter. “This is a serious matter, and we need your help to bring this kitten back to safety and to the home he was meant to have.”
